What is the Performance Group?

The Performance Group is a space for theatre education, research, and collective creation, where learning meets play and experimentation meets stage practice.

Throughout the year, we will explore different theatre techniques and approaches, develop our expressive tools, and investigate how a text, an idea, or a question can be transformed into material for the stage. The process is not based on one specific method, but on bringing together different ways of working and exploring how the group can use them creatively.

A central reference point for this year’s cycle will be Euripides’ "The Bacchae." The play will accompany us as a field for research and creation, approached through a contemporary lens that leaves space for improvisation, movement, music, and collective composition.

Theme: "Mirror"

The central theme of this year’s cycle is the "Mirror."

Who are we when we are alone, and who are we when others are watching? How much of what we call the “self” is a matter of personal choice, and how much is shaped by our relationships, social expectations, and the roles we take on?

Throughout this year’s cycle, we will explore concepts such as identity, persona, and collective behaviour, looking at the point where the social role meets the self. We will move between “being,” “appearing,” and “becoming,” observing both how we perceive ourselves and how our image is shaped through the gaze of others.

Euripides’ "The Bacchae" will serve as the central text for this exploration, opening up questions around individual and collective identity, social image, desire, control, and transformation.

What are we going to be doing?

We will play, improvise, work with the body and voice, and explore tools for acting, movement, and stage presence. We will experiment with different ways of approaching a role and a theatrical text, as well as different ways of communicating and creating within a group.

Alongside the practical work, we will encounter theatre texts, theoretical concepts, and a range of artistic stimuli that will open up new perspectives on the theme of the Mirror. Theory will not be treated as a separate lesson, but will remain closely connected to practice - through discussion, observation, and shared discovery.

Gradually, our exploration of Euripides’ "The Bacchae" will become more focused. Through improvisation, physical and vocal work, music, and collective creation, we will develop our own stage language and shape the material that emerges from the group’s journey.
