Simple Transition

Our "Simple Transition", based on the musical by Gerasimos Evangelatos and Themis Karamouratidis.

Abroad promises prospects of growth and a sense of security. We often hear in the news about a "wave of migration abroad" and experts analyzing the complex phenomenon of "brain drain." Yet behind the numbers and statistics, there are people, stories, and luggage. Yes, luggage...

Sometimes overflowing (a brand-new beginning from scratch can be frightening, isn't it?) and sometimes tightly empty (as a dream may remain 'frozen' in a hidden storage room of the soul).

In Utrecht, greek-speaking immigrants build a small homeland on the theatrical stage. Through their shared - or not so shared - experiences, they explore what connects them, as people living between homelands, stories, and cultures. This is also the theme of Queenda's first theatre season: "What Unites Us."

Through this creative process, "Simple Transition" came to life, a performance based on the musical by Gerasimos Evangelatos and Themis Karamouratidis.

Synopsis

Set against the backdrop of Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, and sparked by the delay of a flight to London, the lives of eleven people preparing to leave Greece and begin a new chapter in England inevitably intersect. The departure gate becomes a place of encounter, confession, 'coincidence.'

A young woman follows her partner abroad. A mother bids farewell to her daughter leaving to study. A philhellene French migrant leaves behind a great love. A long-term resident abroad, who always returns home. An artist with no geographical 'base.' A mysterious woman, eager for a new beginning. A dynamic journalist, unwilling to compromise. And an airport employee, watching others' lives change while her own remains...

Eleven different lives sharing one common coordinate: the Greece they leave behind, the people they part with, the dreams they carry, and the fears hidden in their luggage.

A story about those who left, and those who stayed behind... Those who had to grow up quickly, swallow their emotions, and keep looking ahead. For a Greek-speaking community that sings so it won't fade away...

On May 28 and 29, 2026, at the City Theater of Utrecht (Stadsschouwburg Utrecht).
